Client Spotlight: Bonnie — 86 Years Young & Still Getting Stronger

At Fitness Lying Down, we believe strength training should meet the person where they are — not force them into a box.

That belief is exactly why Bonnie’s story is so special.

Bonnie is 86 years old and has been training with us at FLD for almost four years.

But what stands out most about Bonnie isn’t her age.

It’s her consistency.

It’s her curiosity.

It’s her willingness to keep learning, keep moving, and keep showing up for herself.

“I always do better when I’m in a community of people.”

Strength Training That Makes Sense

Before Bonnie started training at FLD, she had participated in other exercise programs in the community. But after talking with Cory — and asking plenty of questions — she decided this approach made sense for her.

One of the things Bonnie appreciated right away was that her program was designed for her body, her needs, and her goals.

At FLD, we don’t believe exercise should be random. Every tool, every movement, and every progression should have a purpose.

As Bonnie describes it, she is “the machine,” and the equipment is there to help her strengthen her body in specific ways.

“Even though I’m not doing things other people are doing, I’m getting better at what I’m doing.”

Keeping the Mind Engaged

One of Bonnie’s favorite parts of training at FLD is that her program changes every few weeks.

That means she has to learn new movements, new patterns, and new combinations. And while that can feel challenging at first, Bonnie has come to appreciate how it keeps her mind engaged right alongside her body.

Strength training is not just about muscles. It’s about coordination, confidence, timing, awareness, and the ability to move through life with more trust in your body.

Bonnie shared that after a couple of weeks with a new program, her muscle memory starts to take over — and suddenly the movements feel smoother, stronger, and more natural.

Real-Life Strength

For Bonnie, the benefits of training show up far beyond the walls of FLD.

Recently, she noticed she was able to safely hold her nine-month-old grandson, who has become stronger, more active, and much harder to manage in her arms.

That moment was affirming.

That is what real strength looks like.

Strength is not about age. Strength is about building the ability to keep living life fully.

More Than Exercise

Bonnie’s story is also a reminder that fitness can be deeply relational.

On her very first day at FLD, another client encouraged her by sharing how much progress she had noticed after just a few weeks. That moment helped Bonnie keep coming back.

Since then, that encouragement has turned into friendship.

That is the kind of community we are proud to build at FLD — one where people feel supported, challenged, and reminded that they are not doing this alone.
